The long-awaited return of racing at Llandow Circuit got under way on Wednesday 30th April as Round 1 of the Llandow Revival Series delivered an exciting evening of competition for both youth and adult riders.
With bright sunshine and clear skies setting the scene, riders were also met with strong winds across the venue, particularly on the main circuit where the U14, U16 and adult races faced tough and demanding conditions. The gusty weather created split groups and plenty of exciting moments throughout the evening.
It was fantastic to see strong numbers across both the youth and adult races, with riders from Maindy Flyers and clubs across South Wales and beyond supporting the revival of closed-circuit racing at one of the region’s most iconic venues.
The series marks a major step forward for grassroots racing opportunities and forms part of Maindy Flyers’ wider commitment to creating more chances for young riders to race, develop and enjoy the sport in the right environment.
We were also grateful for the recent shoutout on the Watts Occurring podcast from Luke Rowe and Geraint Thomas, who gave the Llandow Revival Series a brilliant mention and even joked they might come down and race.
We’re not sure if they’ll be lining up yet, but if not, we can always find them a spot on the karting circuit with the kids.
A huge thank you goes to our title sponsors Uprise Bikes, whose support has been instrumental in making the return of the series possible.
We are also incredibly grateful to our supporting sponsors Tiny Rebel, Tyre Glider, Synergy Performance, Ride Bikes Wales, Cwmtillery Glass Centre, and Pinarello for helping bring the series back to life.
Hosting events like this requires significant investment in venue hire, first aid, commissaires, timing, and sponsor support is vital in making grassroots racing possible.
Mike Richards, Chair of Maindy Flyers, said:
“Tonight was a huge moment for Maindy Flyers and for grassroots racing in South Wales. Bringing racing back to Llandow has taken a huge amount of work behind the scenes, and to see such strong numbers across both the youth and adult races made it all worthwhile.
The conditions were tough with the wind making racing on the main circuit especially challenging. This series is about creating more opportunities for riders to race, develop and enjoy the sport. Round 1 was a brilliant start, and we can’t wait for Round 2.”
Steve Edgell from Uprise Bikes said:
“We’re incredibly proud to support the return of racing at Llandow and to work alongside Maindy Flyers on a project that means so much to the local cycling community.
Grassroots racing is where futures are built. Creating more opportunities for young riders and supporting the wider racing scene is something we believe strongly in. Seeing so many riders on the start line tonight shows exactly why events like this matter, and we’re excited to be part of the journey.”
This is a brand new format for 2026, and after such a positive opening round, excitement is already building for Round 2 on 20th May.
