Code of Conduct

It is the responsibility of everybody involved in our club to ensure it remains a safe place, free from discrimination, fear and where possible, risk.  In order to create an environment which is supportive, welcoming and fun everybody should be clear what is and what is not acceptable or expected behaviour.  Establishing a Code of Conduct is a way of achieving this.  With the increase in use of social media and video conferencing software, it should be noted that the code of conduct applies online as well as during facetoface interactions.

Code of Conduct for Riders

As a rider of Maindy Flyers, I agree to:

   1.    Respect Others:

   •    Treat all members, coaches, volunteers, officials, and competitors with respect, both on and off the bike.

   •    Encourage and support my teammates, celebrating their successes as well as my own.

   2.    Ride Responsibly:

   •    Follow all instructions given by coaches, ride leaders, and volunteers to ensure safety for myself and others.

   •    Adhere to all club, race, and road rules, including traffic laws and regulations issued by British Cycling.

   •    Wear the correct safety gear, including a helmet, and maintain my bike in good working order.

   3.    Be Committed and Reliable:

   •    Arrive on time, ready to ride, and bring the necessary equipment, including water, energy snacks, and spare inner tubes.

   •    Participate in sessions with a positive attitude and a commitment to improving my skills.

   4.    Act Responsibly Online:

   •    Avoid posting inappropriate or offensive content related to the club, its members, or cycling events.

   •    Use social media responsibly and respect others’ privacy by not sharing personal details without permission.

Code of Conduct for Parents and Guardians

As a parent or guardian involved with Maindy Flyers, I agree to:

1.    Support a Positive Environment:

   •    Encourage my child and all riders to do their best, emphasising enjoyment and personal development over winning.

   •    Respect coaches, volunteers, officials, and other parents, understanding that everyone is working in the riders’ best interests.

   •    Demonstrate positive, respectful behaviour towards other competitors, spectators, and officials.

2.    Prioritise Safety and Well-being:

   •    Ensure my child is dressed appropriately for sessions and has a well-maintained bike and safety gear, including a helmet.

   •    Inform coaches or ride leaders of any medical conditions, injuries, or concerns that might impact my child’s participation.

   •    Pick up my child promptly after sessions and events or make alternative arrangements with the club.

3.    Promote Independence and Responsibility:

   •    Encourage my child to take responsibility for their actions, equipment, and attendance at sessions.

   •    Support my child’s resilience and respect for others by allowing them to handle feedback from coaches constructively.

4.    Communicate Respectfully:

   •    Raise any concerns directly with the club in a respectful manner, following the club’s and British Cycling’s complaint procedures.

   •    Refrain from engaging in criticism or negative comments about coaches, other riders, or club activities in public or online.

Consequences of Breaching the Code of Conduct

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may lead to disciplinary action by the club, which could include:

   •    A verbal or written warning.

   •    Temporary suspension from club activities.

   •    Permanent exclusion from the club in serious cases.
