GETTING STARTED
As soon as most parents have
witnessed what we do at Maindy Track, one the first things they
ask is ‘how old does my little one have to be to cycle?’.
There is no minimum age limit
because they’re all different. Some get going even before they
reach their fourth birthday.
Maindy Track is a fantastic place to
get your children started. It’s just about as safe an
environment as anywhere a great place for them to learn.
It’s not unusual for anxious parents to bring children to one of
our ‘Can’t ride – Won’t Ride’ sessions complete with a new bike
and stabilizers. After a quick assessment by a qualified
‘British Cycling’ Coach (who more often than not removes the
stabilizers) the child gains confidence. They may well start on
the grass and soon move to the track before the proud family
leave, happy in the knowledge that their future star has just
ridden a lap on their own.
As a rule of thumb; once the
children can ride a lap of the track alone, they are welcome to
join Maindy Flyers, membership is free, just ask at reception
for an application form. From this moment on the children can
come to any of the other sessions for children. We hold
freewheel sessions from 5.30pm – 630pm on Tuesdays and then
fixed-wheel sessions 5.30pm – 6.30pm on Thursdays. There are
sessions on Saturday mornings from 9am – 10.30am and all the
sessions are tailored to suit different abilities.
Cant’ Ride – Won’t Ride sessions are
held on Fridays 6pm – 7pm and run from April through to October.
There are some small bikes at Maindy but it is better if you can
bring your own. There is one other thing: Everyone must wear a
helmet and gloves or mittens whilst riding the track.
